Zurich Real Estate raise over £3000 for Oak Lodge School

Hearts of Oak would like to say a HUGE thank you to the boys and girls at Zurich Real Estate, who held a special Quiz Night and Auction and raised over £3000 for Oak Lodge Special School

Over 120 Zurich employees and several memebers of the Hearts of Oak committee tried in vain to answer some of the most difficult questions ever posed in a quiz.

Oak Lodge Chairman of Governors Stephen Ferguson said: “We were staggered both by the huge generosity of the Zurich Real Estate staff,  and by their interest in supporting Oak Lodge School. Every penny that they raised will go to enriching the education and opportunites of our students. It’s just a pity that they didn’t make a great night perfect, by allowing us to win their quiz!”.

Special thanks to oraganisers Kim Day and Claire Sharp, and to emergency stand in Quizmaster Chris Hoad, as well asHeidi Clark and Jack Taylor who bid huge amounts of money for a signed Essex and England  shirts.

tri for life donate £7000!

Tri for LifeWe’d like to say a big thank you to the Richard Selby and the Trustees of tri for life who have kindly donated £7000 to Hearts of Oak.  We are especially grateful for this donation because we know that every penny was earned the hard way: through many hours of swimming, cycling and running.

tri for life is the brain child of the late Harvey Selby. Having been heavily involved in many charities, Harvey wanted to come up with a new sporting challenge that would encourage people to get fit and raise money in the process. He soon discovered that triathlons were one of the fastest growing sports, appealing to a range of individuals, yet there was no single event devoted to both fundraising and triathlon. tri for life was born out of Harvey’s desire to create something different whilst raising substantial money at the same time.

Sadly Harvey was diagnosed with cancer soon after tri for life was formed and although he saw a video of the first event, he was not well enough to attend. In his memory, tri for life continues as “The Harvey Selby charitable trust”.
